A data leak is a security incident whereby personal data have fallen into the hands of unauthorised persons, become accessible to unauthorised persons or ‘have been lost’.

A data leak does not apply only to IT; the loss of a hardcopy file is also a data leak. Data leaks must always be reported at privacy@hdkdenhaag.nl.

The Privacy Officer of the university of the arts will quickly discuss the (possible) data leak and subsequent actions with the Data Protection Officer (DPO) and will provide feedback.

If you discover a data leak or any other unusual privacy-related matters, immediately contact at privacy@hdkdenhaag.nl. Provide as much information as possible, for example what happened, what data was involved, the possible source of the leak and the parties involved. With this information, the situation can be assessed and a decision can be made on whether action by specialists is required.

The loss of USB sticks, laptops or a hardcopy file can also be regarded as a data leak. If you have lost one of these data carriers, you must report this via privacy@hdkdenhaag.nl. The Privacy Officer of the university of the arts will quickly discuss the (possible) data leak and subsequent actions with the Data Protection Officer (DPO) and provide feedback on this. The DPO is obliged to make an internal record of the data leak and decide whether the leak must be reported to the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
